Some tasks in life are harder than others. Crossing the Antarctic alone wearing nothing but support hose and a ceremonial headdress. Performing brain surgery using chopsticks. Talking to a white nationalist.

But by far one of the most difficult tasks you will ever face is shopping for groceries. It’s a grassy, inviting meadow secretly filled with claymore mines. It’s not whether you will get a leg blown off. It’s how many of your legs will get blown off before you get to the wine and beer aisle. Four? Seven? Some number that will never be invented now that Stephen Hawking has died?

But the trouble starts a long time before you even enter that minefield.

Most of us live incredibly busy lives. When we’re not curing cancer with our winsome smiles, we’re volunteering at the children’s wing of the local leper colony. We simply don’t have time for mundane tasks like going through all of our cabinets and refrigerators and under the bed and everywhere else to see if we need things and then writing them down. Here’s how to save time.

Arrange your commodities by cabinet or shelf (including those in the fridge). Keep a can of spraypaint handy. When you run out of something, spraypaint its name on the outside of the cabinet…
